{"id":231,"date":"2007-08-11T17:25:46","date_gmt":"2007-08-11T16:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tinyplanetblog.com\/?p=231"},"modified":"2007-08-11T17:25:46","modified_gmt":"2007-08-11T16:25:46","slug":"market-madness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tinyplanetblog.com\/?p=231","title":{"rendered":"Market madness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As much of the world&#8217;s media freaks out over how the stock markets plummeted on Thursday and Friday, I&#8217;d like to draw attention to these two paragraphs buried in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/hotStocksNews\/idUSN0135773520070810?pageNumber=2\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> <strong>Reuters<\/strong> report:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Despite the market&#8217;s slide on Thursday and Friday, all three major U.S. stock indexes ended this volatile week higher: The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.4 percent, the Standard &amp; Poor&#8217;s 500 index advanced 1.4 percent and the Nasdaq composite index rose 1.3 percent.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"midArticle_3\"><\/span>For the year so far, stocks are still in positive territory. The Dow is up 6.2 percent, while the S&amp;P 500 is up 2.5 percent and the Nasdaq is up 5.4 percent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, despite some markets suffering their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/b654a218-4715-11dc-9096-0000779fd2ac.html\" target=\"_blank\">worst one-day fall in four years<\/a>, it seems all may not be as bleak as it appears.
