{"id":345,"date":"2007-10-06T12:42:02","date_gmt":"2007-10-06T11:42:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tinyplanetblog.com\/?p=345"},"modified":"2007-10-06T12:42:02","modified_gmt":"2007-10-06T11:42:02","slug":"space-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tinyplanetblog.com\/?p=345","title":{"rendered":"Space money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Foreign exchange firm Travelex has introduced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelex.co.uk\/press\/ENG\/DOC_QUID_10042007.asp\" target=\"_blank\">a currency for interstellar commerce<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From the press release:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TVX_text\">It is the first currency of its kind in the universe and has been developed in partnership with a team of scientists from the National Space Centre and the University of Leicester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They clearly have the inside track if they can be so sure it&#8217;s the &#8220;first of its kind in the universe&#8221;, but it&#8217;s fun all the same. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TVX_text\">The Quasi Universal Intergalactic Denomination<\/span> (QUID &#8212; slang for money in Britain and Ireland) is made from plastic and has no sharp edges, which would be lethal in a zero-g environment. Each features the solar system: eight planets around a central sun (poor Pluto; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=2207893888\" target=\"_blank\">I and more than one million other have not forgotten you<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Here they be:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"left\"><img src=\"http:\/\/tinyplanetblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/tvx_img_quidonhand.jpg\" alt=\"tvx_img_quidonhand.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">One quid is worth \u20ac8.68, $12.50 or \u00a36.25, with the different colours having different values.
